Another Christmas Season and another Piping Santa Pub Crawl.

With the Holidays in full swing we want to show our appreciation to those who keep the Heathens going. We'd like to thank our friends at the Piper Down, the Republican and the Fox Hole for continually having us in to do what we do.... and a big Merry Christmas to all of the Heathen Highlander fans. We couldn't do it with out you!

Last night Mike and Dave played for the first Kilt Night held at the Fox Hole in West Jordan. We hadn't been in the Fox Hole before, but it proved to be a great place to play and hang out. We hope to see some Heathens fans out next time. Oh, and try the Garlic Parmesan Wings. Yummy!

The next Kilt Night will be on Saturday December 3rd. The Heathens start at 9:00.

On August 6th the Heathens had a great gig at the UBIC (Uintah Basin In Celebration) Festival in Roosevelt, Ut. The crowd was fantastic, the event organizers treated us like kings and we had the pleasure of sharing the stage with T-5 and Chuck Wicks. We just hope the audience had as much fun as the Heathens did!

Heathens with the Voodoo Darlings

Last week we opened for the Voodoo Darlings Burlesque at the old Murray Theater. The show sold out, the crowd was awesome and as you can see, we had a great time.

Hey Heathen Fans, we're still here! We've just been a little behind on updates.

Summer 2010 has been good to the Heathens. We didn't do a bunch of group shows, but the solo gigs have been flowing in. I'm happy to say there was a great increase in our wedding bookings this year, Marc and Mike have been out doing funerals like crazy and the hand full of summer band gigs we did were fantastic. This year we had an increase in calls for standard pipe band type of performances. Town's Days celebrations and that sort of thing. We were happy to show up and do them, with the usual Heathen's flair!

Now here it is, October.... Time for the bar crawls to start really picking up and we're excited to get back at it.

Park City Irish Music Festival

For those who missed the Park City Irish Music Festival on August 1st. I recommend you attend next year! It was fantastic. A huge crowd turned out for the show. Judging by the smiling faces, dancing and cheering.... I'd say a good time was had by all. Here are some pics from our showing at the festival.

Due to changes in Salt Lake City’s policy on parades, it has become much more expensive to host a parade in the city. As a result we are on the verge of losing a longstanding St Patrick’s Day tradition in Salt Lake.
For that cause:

The Heathen Highlanders are joining with Swagger the Utah Hibernian Society, , the Crawford School of Irish Dance, Piper Down, and St. Joseph's The Worker Catholic Church to raise money to save the St. Patrick's Day Parade. This parade has been held continually since 1978 and was first held in 1864. Adult tickets are $20 and student tickets are $10. They can be purchased on the Hibernian Society website (www.irishinutah.org), at Piper Down, and from members of Swagger.The show will feature Swagger, the Heathen Highlanders and the Crawford Irish Dancers.

St Andrew's day is close at hand! Monday November 30th is the actual holiday. However, The Republican Pub at 917 South, St Street in Salt Lake City will be observing St Andrew's Day all weekend. Bar owner Jason says "If the Scottish bar up the street wants to celebrate St Patrick's day six months out of the year... the Irish bar can celebrate St Andrew's Day!" Come enjoy the great Scottish party with the Heathen Highlanders, November 27th and 28th. See you there.

OK so, things are a bit slow for us this month. We've had a bunch of solo shows but not allot of group stuff. However, last Saturday we played at South Town Mall to help welcome Santa Clause and kick off the Christmas season a bit early. The Heathens led a parade of sports mascots, kids and St Nick riding on the B.R.T... That's Big Red Truck. Yes... Santa ditched the slay and let Sandy City Fire take him to the mall in style. It was a bit cold, but all who showed up had a good time!

September was a fairly productive month for the Heathen Highlanders. In addition to several private functions, members of the Heathens were out in the public performing at The International Peace Gardens Festival, The West Jordan September 11th Tatoo, Piper Down and Maggie McGee's 1/2 way to St Patrick's Day Parties, the birthday party for Piper Down owner Dave Morris, Sheep Wagon Days Festival and the Clan McGilavry annual gathering. The Heathens were happy to be joined by several members of The L.A. Scots drum line and Irish rock band Swagger @ Piper Down. We hope that those who attended the gigs had a good time. We did!

The Heathen Highlanders Blog is Changing

In the past this blog has been used as a home page for the Heathen Highlanders. However... with the introduction of http://www.heathenhighlanders.com/ earlier this year, the blog style home page is no longer necessary. So we're changing over to become an actual blog. On this page members of the Heathens can log on and enter posts about Heathen gigs, events and the life of a Heathen Highlander. It's just a new way for us to casually give information about what's going on.

I hope that friends and fans of the group will join in and comment. We're looking forward to the first post after the 1/2 Way to St Patrick's Day Party at Piper Down this weekend.

Utah's one and only Freelance Mercenary Pipe Corps

It all started one late October night in 2005; Mike, Ian and Dave met together on the Piper Down stage to show the crowd what they had. They struck in, and the bar went wild. From that moment on, the idea that was to become the Heathen Highlanders was born. Time passed, and the group has grown to be eleven members strong. They perform at bar shows, conventions, weddings, funerals, bar mitzvahs, and any other events imaginable. No job is too odd. This rag tag bunch of miscreants are dedicated to blaring loud Scottish and Irish bagpipe music, emptying barrels of punch, wooing lonely women and having a lot of fun. They are easily recognized by their lack of uniformity and complete disregard for the rules of traditional piping. If you happen to run into one of these guys around Salt Lake City, don’t worry; everyone but Steve has received their rabies shots. Just drop a dollar in the jug and enjoy.
